MUZAFFARABAD: After a three-day lull, Indian troops on Tuesday resumed shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC), injuring three people in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The casualties were reported from Khanpur and Chattar villages of Khuiratta sector in the southern Kotli district, after shelling from “small and big” arms was started by Indian troops at about 6pm, a police official in the area told Dawn by telephone.

The shelling continued for about an hour, leaving 25-year-old Zeeshan, 30-year-old Imran and 40-year-old Javed injured, added the official.

On Saturday, Indian troops had targeted Khuiratta and Charhoi sectors in Kotli district and Samahni and Baroh sectors in Bhimber district throughout the day, causing injuries to as many as 14 people, including eight women and a toddler.

Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa visited the LoC in Nakyal sector of Kotli on Saturday to review the operational preparedness of troops.

It was after his visit that the army had issued a stern warning to India to refrain from any misadventure along the LoC.

“Any misadventure by Indian army across the Line of Control will be a miscalculation, shall be responded with full force and could lead to unintended consequences,” the army had said in a statement.
