CHARSADDA/TANK: A polio team’s police guard escaped unhurt when unknown miscreants riding a motorcycle opened fire on him in Shabqadar tehsil, while a polio worker, who was kidnapped from FR Tank, was recovered on Thursday.

According to details, a polio team escorted by police was engaged in administering polio drops to children in Mohallah Mohsin Khan in Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda district when unknown miscreants riding a motorcycle opened fire on the police guard, but luckily he escaped the attack.

Local people said that the miscreants fled from the scene after the attack. They said the lady health worker had entered a house to administer polio drops to children while the policeman was standing guard outside when the miscreants attacked him. A case has been registered against unknown attackers at Shabqadar police station.

In Tank, polio in-charge Sanaullah Marwat, who was kidnapped by unknown person from Pang Dewana Baba locality of FR Tank on Tuesday, had been recovered.

The kidnappers were demanding Rs1.2 million as ransom for his release. However, assistant political agent Taimoor Afridi called a jirga of Bittani tribesmen and warned them to ensure unconditional recovery of the polio worker within three days or face action under the collective responsibility clause of FCR.
