Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh A. D. Khawaja has directed all officers to inform the police headquarters in advance before leaving their police station or area of supervision for attending any security meeting [convened by the provincial government], it has been learnt.
The spokesperson for the Sindh Police issued a statement on Wednesday in this regard. It clarified that the IGP did not refrain any officer from participating in any security meeting as the "interests of masses and protection of their lives and possession is very important to him".
The spokesperson further said that "following the police rules and directives issued by seniors on a priority basis was not only a requisite of the police oath but also a hallmark of police discipline".
According to the police rules, all officials are bound to obey their seniors and orders which are directly related to the welfare of people and communities living in different areas, read the statement.
It further clarified that under the said rules it was mandatory for every official to provide written information to the police headquarters before leaving his station or area of supervision.
That statement clarified that the IGP only wanted the official to obey the said rules and was not stopping any police official from attending any meeting.
