KOHAT: Two motorcyclists were killed and seven other people injured in accidents on the Indus Highway and Rawalpindi Road here on Friday.

Police have arrested four drivers involved in the accidents and booked them under the relevant laws.

An oil tanker and pickup truck hit a motorcycle near Gumbat on Rawalpindi Road, which resulted in the death of Noor Mohammad of Shadi Pur. Also, a motorcycle was hit by a pickup in Darmalak on the Indus Highway, seriously injuring one Hussain who died on way to hospital.

In another case, a trailer rammed into a car coming from the opposite direction near Toll Plaza on the Indus Highway in which six inmates of the car belonging to Karak district were injured.

They were identified as Mst Hazrat Shaheen, Sajid Munir, Mohammad Ibrar, and minors Rabia, Zoha and Hashir.

They were taken to the KDA hospital.

In yet another accident on the Indus Highway near Muslimabad a coaster hit and injured a man standing on the roadside.

The police registered cases against the four drivers and have put them behind bars.

ELECTED: Dr Matiullah Shah returned victorious in the re-polling on Urban-V seat of the district council by defeating three strong rivals, including a joint candidate of PPP, PML-N and JUI-F, according to a notification issued here.

The seat had fallen vacant after the de-seating of Dr Shah by the Peshawar High Court on a writ petition challenging his independent position after leaving PML-N.

Again considered as a favorite all the parties lured him to join them, but PTI succeeded in making him to accept its ticket.

Dr Shah won the council seat for the third consecutive time from the same constituency.

He got 2,049 votes followed by Azhar Naeem, a joint candidate of three major parties, with 1,218 votes and Sajid Nadeem 566.
