Sindh police’s Counter-Terrorism Department on Sunday claimed to have killed a wanted gangster in an ‘encounter’ in Site area of Karachi.

The killed suspect was allegedly involved in targeted killings of at least 10 people including a local reporter, minority members, police and workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, said CTD SSP Omer Shahid Hamid.

Acting on tip off, the CTD team conducted targeted raid near Naurus Chowangi in Site in the wee hours of Sunday. On seeing the police, the suspect resorted to firing and in an ensuing encounter, the gunman, identified as Mohammed Sohail alias DC was arrested in an injured condition who died while being taken to a hospital. One hand grenade and one TT pistol seized from his custody.

The deceased was associated with Lyari’s gangsters, Wasiullah Lakho and Taj Mohammed alias Taju. He had fled to Dubai in order to avoid being arrested, revealed the SSP Omer Shahid.

According to information shared by intelligence officials, the killed gangster was involved in the murder of a local newspaper reporter, Syed Raza Ali Shah, who was gunned down near Abdullah Haroon orphanage in Baghdadi area in the year 2012.

Besides he had gunned down a police constable Baber in Kharadar in the same year.

Furthermore, the deceased was involved in the murder of two members of Hindu community who were targeted in Baghdadi area in the year 2013.

He along with his accomplices had also killed one, Qazafi Mohammed in Kharadar in the same year.

Sohail alias DC along with his accomplices also shot dead two citizens near Allah Rakha Park in Kharadar in the year 2013.

Furthermore, he had kidnapped a citizen and brutally murdered him and later on threw his severed head on street in the year 2012. He had also thrown hand grenade inside Allah Rakah Park in the year 2013.

He was also involved in kidnapping for ransom incidents. The CTD official claimed that he was also ‘active’ during the brutal killing of their supposed rival gang leader, Arshad Pappu.

Mohammed Sohail alias DC, 34, a resident of Nazimabad had joined Muttahida Qaumi Movement in the year 2007 and remained associated with it till the year 2010, revealed AIG CTD, Dr. Sanaullah Abbasi.

Later on, he developed some ‘differences’ with the MQM and joined Lyari gangster and shifted to Nayabad of Lyari on instructions of the gang-leader, Wasiullah Lakho.
