QUETTA: Families affe­cted by aggression of the Afghan forces in the two border villages and Chaman will be looked after by the Pakistan Army, said the Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Aamir Riaz.

The commander said this while addressing an event in Chaman to recognise sacrifices made by the residents of Killi Jahangir and Killi Luqman for the country. He said they had become victims of unprovoked firing by Afghan security forces.

“The army will extend all its help and assistance to the affectees of Chaman and will take care of them,” said Gen Riaz.

Cash and rations provided to families of the deceased

Relief and assistance packages were distributed on Monday by Lt Col Nofil Ashraf Khan.

The event was attended by representatives of the civil administration and residents.

Cash amount of Rs3.4 million and 1.428 tonnes of rations were distributed among families of the deceased and injured residents from both villages.

The Frontier Corps (FC) have already distributed a relief package of Rs25m — Rs15m was paid in cash while ration worth Rs10m was also distributed among the affected families.

They have also promised to provide free education to the children of the deceased at FC schools.

The provincial government has also announced a compensation for those who lost their lives and were injured in the Chaman incident.
