BAHAWALPUR, Aug 4: The district council demanded on Monday that the Punjab government should ban the unlicensed sale of acid in the province.

The demand was made through a resolution, moved by minority member Mrs Stalla Bedi in view of the rising number of acid throwing attacks in the area. It was unanimously passed by the council meeting presided over by Naib Nazim Syed Owais Gardezi.

Through another resolution, the meeting demanded that provision of medicines in the dispensaries in the rural areas should be ensured. DO health informed the meeting that Rs1 million funds for the purchase of medicines for the dispensaries had been received.

The meeting also approved 34 electricity, 31 roads, six education and three water supply and drainage schemes costing about Rs30 million.

Speaking at the meeting the District Nazim asked the members to monitor the progress of on-going uplift projects in their areas.
