KARACHI, Jan 3: The popularity of great boxer Muhammad Ali’s daughter Laila Ali in women boxing the world over has led to introduction of the sport in Pakistan as the Pakistan Amateur Boxing Federation (PABF) has decided to launch women boxing in Pakistan soon.

The Joint secretary and spokesmen of PABF, Ali Akbar Shah, disclosed to PPI Wednesday that PABF is expected to announce this month the formation of its women wing and invite the interested Pakistan women boxers to join the women boxing.

He said that the PABF President Professor Anwar Chaudhry, who is also the president of International Amateur Boxing Federation (AIBA) will announce the formation of PABF’s Women boxing wing this month.

Professor Chaudhry has gone abroad but would reach Pakistan soon to announce the women boxing wing, Shah said.

During first phase of women boxing a coaching camp will be held at National Sports Training and Coaching Center (NSTCC), Karachi, and interested women will be invited to participate in coaching camp and would be taught all the basic techniques and essential matters of the sport.

The candidates showing keenness in women boxing, the PABF would make all efforts to promote the women boxing in Pakistan, he said adding that it depends upon Pakistan women boxers how much they take interest to join women boxing and PABF will provide opportunities to promote the women boxing in the country.—PPI
