PESHAWAR: The heavy downpour sent the temperature down in several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday ending the weeklong hot and dry spell.

A woman died in rain-related incident in Nowshera.

In Peshawar, the weather turned pleasant after gusty winds followed by rain lashed the city from late on Monday to early hours on Tuesday.

The Met Office said 37 millimeters rain was recorded at the airport observatory and 34 millimeters at its main metrological station on the Khyber Road.

The rainwater inundated roads and streets.

The strong winds caused suspension of electric supply to many areas of the capital city. The Pesco partially restored electricity in most of those areas afterwards.

The mercury, which increased to 47 degree Celsius in Peshawar on Sunday, the hottest day of the season, came down due to the rainfall.

The Met Office put the maximum temperature in the city at 36 degree Celsius and humidity in the air at 51 per cent.

The parts of Peshawar bordering Charsadda and Nowshera also received rain in the day.

The weathermen forecast partly cloudy weather with thunder and dust storm in Peshawar today (Wednesday).

In Jehangira tehsil of Nowshera, a woman died after being hit by a tree uprooted by heavy rain and thunderstorm.

The police said the woman, a resident of Station Road area, suffered critical injuries when a tree fell on her as she was busy with domestic chorus.

The family members took her to the District Headquarters Hospital but she succumbed to the critical injuries.

The uprooting of trees by windstorm was reported in many areas of Jehangira. It caused the prolonged suspension of power supply.

In the day, Kohat received 12 millimeters rainfall, Kakol 2 millimeters and Balakot 4 millimeters rains on Monday night, while showers were reported in Mardan, Charsadda and other areas.

The rain lashed Mansehra, too. Though it lasted half an hour, it turned the hot weather pleasant.

The city and other parts of Hazara division had seen the mercury increase to 42 degree Celsius during the last few days.

Heavy downpour and thunderstorm caused power suspension for around 15 hours power breakdown in Swabi and localities in the jurisdiction of the Tarbela dam. Severe water shortage was also reported.

The people said hailstorm also hit the areas around Tarbela dam.

They said the thunderstorm began soon after Iftar hours and continued until Sehar time with intervals.

In many areas, the thunderstorm uprooted huge trees, which fell on the main transmission lines. It also caused the blockade of many roads cutting off the respective areas from the district headquarters.

In Shangla, too, heavy downpour turned the weather pleasant.

The people in Bisham, Alpuri, Chakesar, Puran, Shahpur, Karora, Martung, Dandai and other areas stepped out to enjoy the weather after rainfall.

Electricity supply remained suspended for many hours in some areas due to heavy rainfall.

Bajaur Agency, too, received rain in the day for around 30 minutes.

The rain brought the overall temperature in the region to 29 degree Celsius from 38 degrees Celsius, which had been reported during the last couple of weeks.
