DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Aug 5: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Tuesday announced a grant of Rs10 million and one ambulance for Gomal University and Rs3 million for Lions Mehmood Eye Hospital.

He was speaking at a function held in connection with the initiation of work on a girls hostel on the varsity premises. The hostel will provide accommodation to 120 students.

The chief minister also announced a bus for the veterinary college and Rs0.5 million for the Dera Press Club.

Mr Durrani called upon the university staff to shun their differences and grouping and pay attention to imparting quality education to the students.

He expressed the hope that Gomal University Vice-Chancellor Wazirzada Mohammad Idrees Khan would make every possible effort to improve the standard of education in the university.

The chief minister said the MMA government was considering making education up to middle level mandatory for all and in this regard necessary legislation was on the cards.

Mr Durrani stated the MMA government was also focussing its attention on ensuring women’s rights in the province and maximum facilities were being given to the womenfolk.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Wazirzada Mohammad Idrees in his address highlighted academic activities of the university.

MMA Secretary-General Maulana Fazlur Rahman, MNA Maulana Attaur Rahman and provincial Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi were also present on this occasion.
