Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday issued orders for the expulsion of Senator Nehal Hashmi from the PML-N, the ruling party's media cell told DawnNews.

A five-member disciplinary committee in its report recommended the prime minister take action against the senator who came under fire last month for making an incendiary speech threatening "those investigating" the Sharif family.

Head of the committee Raja Zafrul Haq in a report to the PM said the committee, after considering Hashmi's position on the matter, has concluded that his speech was in violation of the party's discipline and policy.

The committee unanimously concluded that Hashmi's speech was irresponsible and in violation of the party's discipline, Haq added.

Accepting the committee's recommendations, the prime minister expelled Hashmi from the party.

In a video that surfaced on media in May, Hashmi was seen apparently warning the individuals conducting a Supreme Court-sanctioned investigation that they will be "taken to task" for grilling the premier's family.

His remarks were, prima facie, directed at the Supreme Court-appointed joint investigation team (JIT) probing the Sharif family's business dealings abroad.

Hours after the senator's incendiary remarks made national headlines, Hashmi's membership of the PML-N was suspended and a show-cause notice was issued to him.

Subsequently, he also resigned from his seat in the Senate; however, a few days later Hashmi withdrew his resignation.
