Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel on Monday recovered large quantities of contraband from Karachi's Central Jail during a search operation, jail police told DawnNews.
During the operation, which took 12 hours to complete, security personnel recovered mobile phones, air coolers, knife-cutters, freezers, stoves, DVD players and LED TVs in large quantities, jail police said.
The officials searched the barracks of all prisoners, paying special attention to those who belong to banned outfits.
The search operation was conducted days after two 'high-profile' militants of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi escaped from the facility in one of the most brazen acts of subversion in recent months.
The circumstances which led to the escape of the militants remain shrouded in mystery, as police officials said they were informed about the incident after a ‘considerable delay’.
Startling revelations about the incident indicate that the prisoners had escaped on Tuesday by breaking its grill while the jail staff came to know about their escape on Wednesday when they were supposed to be presented before the court inside the jail.
The jail administration has suspended 12 staff members, including Central Prison Superintendent Ghulam Murtaza Shaikh, Deputy Superintendent Faheem Memon and Assistant Superintendent Abdul Rehman Shaikh, after the two under-trial prisoners escaped.

Inspite of tight security in the jail, how the escape of under trial prisoner belonging to dangerous banned outfit took place, it is matter of great concern, it is saying of intellectual that when all hands join everything is possible showing conveyance of entire jail staffer. Main thing which is under consideration is that why they got escape inmates were taken light. World in jails is changed where jailer is all and all. Treatment with high profiler killer and dangerous pensioners are better by jail staffer but the innocent who are behind the bars are in more trouble, the affairs of jails are afflicted with money, which inmates provide or please to jail staffer pass the days in jail much better, system needs change if you want betterment. Complete probed to be conducted all hidden hands shall be exposed who made the safe passage for the escaped pensioners.

LOL! Incredible. I'm expecting in the next raid, they will also find motorbikes, cars, SUVs, Trucks and even a private jet in a jail house!?
How on earth were these large items were able to get inside a jail - without anyone noticing or intercepting - defies logic.

Don't suspend, panish them. They're abviosly committing a crime too. Not only letting go the criminals but also providing luxury in jail. Corruption at its best.

@naqeeb, This is not management's fault. These things were brought inside the jails in pockets. Police can't check pockets of hundreds of visitors everyday .

Why not to fire the IG , DIG and the super Intended prisons when this much stuff is found inside the prison ? Obviously it went in with full conivence of the jail staff making it a 3 star hotel rather then a Jail

If that is in the jail which is supposed to be the safest and secure place .. just wonder what it must be in the outside world...if u cannot trust ur own police amend the constitution and let people have their own militia army..it is a constitutional right to safe guard one's life n property...

Jail Chowrangi Bridge has been kept closed at night since last many months. Common people living in that area are suffering due to this. The request to close the bridge is from the IG Jail as per my information.
I live in that area and i need to know why are we made to suffer due to the inefficiency of the IG and his people. I am not bothered which criminal is in jail....all i want is that we should not suffer.
Open up the bridge immediately no matter what happens.Shift the Jail from the current location to somewhere else. Do not make a common man suffer due to your own mistakes and inefficiency.

This doesn't sound like a Jail, but a Hotel!
Where in the world can one find a jail, where inmates have Cellphones, and also electrical outlets to charge them? Microwaves, DVD Players and TVs? Name one country where you can find such amenities - except in a Dorm or Hotel/Apt facility.
Guns and ammunition in the possession of hardened-criminals,inside a jail will be the ultimate laughing stock!

Does such a safe passage of items recovered fall within the purview of Line of Duty?

What or how about letting recovered items getting into Jail premises?
What is meant by suspension? Is there a shadow of doubt in either or both the incidents?
