ISLAMABAD, Aug 7: The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) has submitted an adjournment motion to the National Assembly secretariat for holding a debate on the Sialkot incident, sources told Dawn on Thursday.

The sources said the motion had been filed by four MNAs Chaudhry Aitezaz Ahsan, Syed Naveed Qamar, Syed Khursheed Shah and Raja Pervez Ashraf.

The ARD sources said the Sialkot jail tragedy, in which four judges were killed, was a proof of the worsening law and order situation in the country. They said the nation should be informed as to who were responsible for the episode and what punishment they would receive for the crime.

They said the ARD believed that the judges were killed due to the police commando action as the decision was taken in haste. Moreover, it seemed that the operation was not properly planned, they added.

Through the motion, the MNAs have sought a thorough debate on the issue before any legislative agenda is taken up in the next session of the National Assembly.

Earlier, the ARD had also submitted an adjournment motion seeking debate on floods in Sindh and Balochistan.

The ARD believed that the floods had caused huge damage to the life and property due to the inefficiency of the provincial governments despite the fact that the Met office had already forecast heavy rains and floods.
