MARDAN: The Higher Education Commission has recognised the Women University Mardan after it fulfilled the HEC requirements, varsity officials claimed here on Wednesday.

They said the varsity in a very short span of time had fulfilled all the requisites given by HEC for the purpose of acquiring recognition.

This university, which caters for the education of women of KP, has made it possible to get recognition from HEC in a period of nine months only, they added.

They said that the recognition had led Women University Mardan to being the first public university having the status of getting NOC from HEC in the shortest time period.

Talking to this correspondent, Vice-Chancellor Dr Ghazala Yasmeen said the varsity had a rapid success rate due to the tireless efforts and contributions of the provincial government, faculty and other staff.

She also stated that the university had conformed to the requisites of HEC regarding the commencement of all the proposed faculties, and established them successfully in a very short time.

The university has, during the period, also arranged one Senate meeting, two academic council meetings, and three syndicate meetings, she explained, saying in addition to this, board of studies meetings had also been arranged every now and then.

The university has established laboratories, a library and various other facilities according to the requirements of HEC, Dr Yasmeen said, adding since the announcement of admissions in various departments, girls from all over KP came here and got admissions, and now the university was about to complete its first academic year (two semesters).

The university has established departments of biotechnology & microbiology, English, psychology, business & economics and Islamiat.

It is also going to initiate political science and international relations, computer science, zoology, botany, mathematics and Urdu disciplines, this year.
