MARDAN/TIMERGARA: Five persons were killed and 11 others received critical wounds when a Bajaur-bound passenger coach struck a stationary truck on Mardan-bypass road near Gujar Gari area here on Wednesday, locals and police officials said.

The ill-fated coach coming from Rawalpindi went out of the driver’s control and hit a truck parked on the bypass.

As a result, five passengers died instantly while 11 others received critical wounds, who were taken by personnel of Rescue 1122 to Mardan Medical Complex for treatment.

The slain passengers were identified as Yahya of Bajaur, driver Khan Bacha, also from Bajaur, Abdul Basit, Sirajul Haq and Rahatullah of Dir district.

The doctors said that condition of most of the injured was critical.

Officials said majority of coach passengers were students of seminaries going to their homes on Eid holidays.

In Lower Dir, four persons were killed in different road incidents, residents and police said.

They said Hamesh Gul of Warsak Adenzai along with a friend was bringing ice from Lowari Top in a mini truck, when it plunged into a ravine at Wari. As a result both of them were killed on the spot.

In another road mishap, a youth identified as Hayatullah of Asbanr was killed when two motorcycles collided head on at Asbanr.

A girl Bushra Bibi was killed when a car she was riding in collided with a van coming from opposite side in Kharkanai area.
