SHANGLA: A five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and strangled to death by a 55-year-old man in Shang area of Bisham tehsil. Police have arrested the suspect.

District police officer Rahatullah Khan told this scribe during his visit to the crime scene on Thursday that according to the FIR the minor girl went outside her home in Shang village and was raped by the man on roof of his house and later strangled her to death.

He said that the suspect was presented in the court which sent him on seven-day physical remand to police custody. He said that the medical report confirmed that the girl was assaulted by the same person. Following the report, the police lodged an FIR under Section 7 Anti-Terrorism Act, 302 and 376 against him.

Body of the girl was taken to the tehsil headquarters hospital Bisham, but due to unavailability of a female doctor, the case was transferred to district headquarters hospital, Alpuri, for autopsy and a post-mortem examination.

The DPO said that after autopsy the doctors held the view that the girl had been raped. Police arrested the suspect, Jumaraz, after he was nominated in the FIR.

SHO Habib Syed claimed that the suspect had been involved in such cases in the past too.

The DPO said that a special investigation team headed by DSP Bisham had been formed to investigate the case.
