KARACHI: Pakistan on Saturday ensured at least a bronze medal after two of their three cueists were pitted against each other in the quarter-finals of the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports (ACBS) 6-Reds Snooker Championship at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
At the outset, reigning national champion Mohammad Sajjad joined the trio in the knockout pre quarters by default when he was declared winner against Kanibek Sagynbaev of Kyrgyzstan by virtue of walkover in his last league match.
Mohammad Bilal, Babar Masih and Asjad Iqbal have already made it to the last-16 round on Friday.
Asjad was the first to make exit when he fall prey to his mentor Sajjad 2-5 in the pre quarters. The latter was home 44-0, 37-20, 0-41, 35-11, 6-60, 59-0, 37-23.
Sajjad now faces Babar in the quarters as the latter accounted for Indian Kamal Chawla 5-3 in the last-16 round the scores being 37-25, 70-0, 0-46, 1-56, 0-67, 52-0, 36-20, 62-0.
The winner of Sajjad-Babar encounter will be entitled for a bronze.
Bilal, who got the better of Hong Kong’s Lin Tang Ho 33-15, 43-5, 38-32, 13-49, 16-40, 70-1, 37-20, takes on Indian celebrity Pankaj Advani in the quarters. Both the best of 11 frames quarter-finals were due to take place on Saturday evening.
