BAHAWALPUR: The death toll of Ahmedpur East oil tanker tragedy rose to 214 on Wednesday.

According to Accidents and Emergencies Director Dr Ammir Bokhari, so far 125 bodies were unidentified, while 88 had been identified and handed over to their families.

He said that to identify the remaining 125 bodies buried temporarily at basti Azam Joya graveyard, samples of 132 people belonging to the families looking for their loved had been collected and sent to the lab for DNA tests.

He said the Bahawal Victoria Hospital had 21 patients, Ahmedpur East THQ Hospital 8, Nishtar Hospital 14 and Jinnah Hospital 6.

He said so far 17 patients had been discharged from the BVH.
