Casting doubts over the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) impartiality, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) on Saturday questioned the commission's jurisdiction in scrutinising the party's old financial statements in a reply submitted to the Supreme Court.
The reply has been submitted in relation to a petition filed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi, who seeks Imran Khan's disqualification over what he terms are irregularities in his party's financial accounts.
The PTI has responded by saying that the PTI remains the focus of the ECP's scrutiny while irregularities in accounts of other political parties are being ignored.
It said that the ECP is trying to declare PTI a 'foreign-funded party' although it does not have the authority to do so.
PTI's reply, submitted by counsel Anwar Mansoor, further states that the ECP cannot conduct a fair inquiry because of its impartiality and bias against PTI.
The ECP, in turn, submitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf's financial documents for the past six years in the Supreme Court.
Documents also include PTI Chairman Imran Khan's certificate stating that the party has not received funds from a prohibited source.
It also submitted financial documents for other major political parties, including the PPP, PML-F, PML-N, JI, MQM-P and PML-Q, but the documents cover a much shorter time span as compared to the papers submitted for PTI.

Imran Khan not to be questioned for what ever wrong he does. He has the courage to treat every one, taking action over his wrong doings, with disrespect and go to any length to prove he is always right ( although quite often he will be totally wrong) while all his opponents are wrong, irrespective of the merit of their cases.
Sad, we have such leaders in Pakistan.

Now you are admitting the fact that indeed you got foreign funding earlier. But if that was not a problem, why did you not declare them in your financial reports submitted before election of 2013 to ECP. PTI can not go unharmed in this case.

There is no reason foreigners would fund Imran Khan's election campaign. Pakistanis living abroad or those who have moved abroad do give him money. Foreign entities would be more likely to contribute to Nawaz Sharif's campaign in order to gain influence,

PTI has proper audited accounts and all source of funds is transparent. Other parties should provide the same of level of transparency. ECP should insist from all parties to show fully audited funding and scrutinise all parties not single out PTI.

@Desi_Baba Not quite so. Imran Khan in the case of Bani Gala funding has provided complete money trail. PML-N has been requested to do the same and so far have failed; rather Nawaz team is entangled in Money Laundering.

@M. M. Alam ..... Well, that does ask the question of how Imran Khan would act if he was elected prime minister, or if he would continue to harass the perceived "enemies of the people". No one knows for sure. On the other hand five years of Imran Khan's rule might change ordinary lives for the better - if he can understand how the government functions.

Reading the daily ping-pong between various political parties in the country, the claims, accusations, pronouncements, proclamations and threats, you would think the entire country is focused on just politics, nothing else.
I am surprised anything actually gets done by this government, which is using every illicit means, including federal agencies to cover its tracks while hounding anyone who points even a finger at its misdeeds. Utter waste of resources and abuse of power.

I have never understood Imrankhan'srationale of of opening offshore accounts to buy flat/s in London. First he said in the beginning to to escape taxes and now he says all the money came to him after the taxes have been.paid. Why did't he bring the money to Pakistan and why he has purchase flat in London. Where is the money trail. He says he is private individual and can not be questioned. The Banigala case or the foreign funding case is all shrouded in mystery. He was never straight and honest. He does not a clear internal or external policy. God bless Pakistan if he ever becomes Prime minister of Pakistan. Some Pakistani people may think he is a savior but I think with security establishment breathing down the neck of politicians no body change fate of Pakistan. Everybody would like to feather their nest fly away when their seat is hot.

NS is the PM, that's why accountability has to start with him. There is nothing stopping someone from going to SC to seek accountability of others too, as the case against IK by Hanif Abbasi shows. This argument that IK is saying he shouldn't be held accountable is rubbish. He has already provided money trail for Bani Gala. Sharifs have provided nothing.
Question raised here is on ECPs bias because it doesn't have the authority as per law to declare any party foreign funded. That is the responsibility of the Federal gov which needs to send a reference to SC once convinced a party is foreign funded and SC then decides that reference based on facts. ECP accepting a petition from pol rivals on PTI's alleged foreign funding is proof of their bias. It's not their jurisdiction. No such reference is being heard against funding of other parties.

See as per the case you are a foreigner and if taking donations from non resident Pakistani's declaring them foreigner is illegal than you also have no right to talk about Pakistan's internal affairs.

JIT can investigate N.S and his entire family , S.C can hear petitions alone against N.S and his family despite of the fact that scores were involved and holding OFF-SHORE COMPANIES as mentioned in PANAMA PAPERS but irony is that SO CALLED CHAMPIONS of ACCOUNTABILITY raising their eyebrows when they are themselves being questioned by the Constitutional bodies , now they are questioning their jurisdiction to go against them. its simply hypocrisy nothing else.

@Desi_Baba when you analyse the facts , you will find that PML , PPP and MQM are the most foreign funded party in pakistan, people don't understand that even a pakistani who funds these party and only holds a british, european or american passport is ''FOREIGN'' in the eyes of the law, so you do the math, and in fact every institution is corrupted and there is no law in this country, time will tell, so have some respect and dignity and call a sheep a sheep.

The ECP can only proceed in the foreign funding matter, if a complaint is made to it about such an irregularity. If PTI does not submit any complaints against other such parties, it is no fault of the ECP.

Nawaz Sharif for revealed as a billioniare for thr first time and the only politician to losing money which is hard to believe. He survives on remittances from his son and nowhere near has the detailed analysis of ones property like Imran has.
