GILGIT: Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Javed Hussain won a by-election of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly on Sunday.

According unofficial results, the PPP candidate won the election for the GBLA-5 constituency Nagar by securing 6,888. His nearest rival Mohammad Baqir of the Islami Tehreek Pakistan (ITP) got 6,051 votes and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Sheikh Akhtar Hussain polled 837 votes.

The seat had fallen vacant after the death of Mohammad Ali Sheikh on Feb 28. He belonged to the ITP. Mr Baqir was supported by the ruling PML-N.
