Rains lash Swabi, suburbs

SWABI, Aug 9: Thunderstorm along with torrential rain destroyed crops and forced the residents of the district and its suburbs to suffer a long power breakdown.

The thunderstorm and rain lashed the district at 2:00am and continued till the dawn of Friday.

A number of areas of Tehsil Chota Lahore and its surrounding villages, some areas of Swabi and Topi also badly hit by the thunderstorm and rain. Everywhere there were deep pools of the rainwater.

Swabi suburbs, Tordher, Yar Hussain, Shewa Adda, Kernel Sher  Kili, Salim Khan, Murghuz, Maini, are submerged  by rainwater.

Both bus stands of Swabi and Topi have become big pools of water and the commuters and the transporters are experiencing difficulties.

Standing crops of maize and tobacco have suffered losses.

The Pesco officials said the cause of breakdown was that various trees had fallen on the main supply lines and the power supply remained suspended from 3.00am to 8.00am. The Pesco staff is busy in the restoration of power supply. However, in some areas the power supply remained suspended for a long time.
