SUKKUR: A tanker loaded with furnace oil overturned near the Baberloi bypass in Khairpur on Tuesday.

According to Motorway police, the oil tanker bearing registration No. TLV-671 loaded with 40,000 litres furnace oil was on its way to Kot Addu (Punjab) from Karachi when it overturned near the Baberloi bypass in Khairpur district.

The incident occurred when the driver fell asleep while driving.

The tanker overturned and the oil spilled all over the road and its surroundings.

Motorway police, with the help of Rangers’ personnel, closed the road up to two kilometres from the spot of the incident while the driver and cleaner of the oil tanker were taken out of the vehicle safely.

Later, with the help of heavy machinery, the oil tanker was put on the road while the remaining furnace oil in the carrier was filled into another oil tanker.

To avert any incident like the one that took place in Ahmedpur East near Bahawalpur, people were kept away from the oil tanker.
