An emergency meeting of the federal cabinet on Thursday endorsed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's decision to not step down as the premier, even as clamour for his exit got louder in wake of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report.
While addressing his cabinet in Islamabad, Sharif termed the JIT report a pack of "allegations and speculations", officials privy to the meeting told DawnNews.
Sharif announced that he will not resign as the prime minister on anyone's call, as the cabinet members suggested that he fight the legal battle to vindicate himself in the Panama Papers case.

Pointing to the opposition parties who have been vehemently demanding his resignation following release of the JIT report, the prime minister said that the PML-N had bagged more votes than those of the opposition parties combined.
"The people of Pakistan have elected me and only they can remove me from this post," he was quoted as saying.
During his briefing of the cabinet, Sharif claimed that all allegations levelled by the JIT in its report were in reference to his family's business dealings, saying his family had "earned nothing after entering politics, but lost a lot."

He said that projects worth billions of rupees are being executed in the country but no evidence of any corruption has been found in any of them.
The premier challenged his opponents to bring forth proof of "corruption of a single paisa" since 1985 against his family.
He alleged that the language employed in the JIT report reeked of "bias and mala fide intentions", adding that his family had cooperated with the JIT in its probe to uphold the law and the Constitution.
The JIT, in its report, highlighted that the prime minister was “non-committal” about the two letters furnished before the Supreme Court by the former Qatari prime minister.
Similarly, the JIT members had termed retired Capt Muhammad Safdar, the PM’s son-in-law, “untruthful, dishonest, deceitful and shifty on many accounts displaying wanting conduct”.
The prime minister’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif had on Wednesday expressed the party's resolve that Sharif will not step down.
“Insh’Allah he won’t resign. Should Nawaz Sharif resign because not a single allegation of misuse of public money has been proven against him?” she said.
The cabinet also approved proposals of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoU) with different countries including the signing of defence cooperation agreements with Indonesia, Turkey and Poland, Radio Pakistan reported.
The meeting also gave its go-ahead to the signing of MoUs with Russia for cooperation in education, finance and banking sectors.
The premier also constituted a four-member committee that will decide the name of the new Islamabad airport.

Challenge challenge challenge, that's all what they do. Ignorant ,arrogant and jehal people. They only accept verdicts that are fixed in their favor. They have no regard for justice and therefore can not deliver justice for the people and have not been able to do as clearly evident from their record. @Desi_Baba sorry, but it is up to the people, including I, who voted to elect the representatives who chose the supreme court justices who nominated the members of the JIT who found the Prime Minister wanting in the case to explain how his wealth grew so much more substantially than it should have. If I, and many, were to vote right now, we'd vote this man out of office, if only to finally make a statement against the culture of lies, goonery and stealing from the poor.

17.16% of eligible voters selected PMLN.. nearly 45% didn't even vote. And credibility of a huge amount of this 17.16% is in question as well. What mandate are you talking about Sir ? Perhaps the honourable court should order for a national referendum based on JIT outcome. Then people will tell you if they want you or not. After all he is saying and agreeing that people brought him in power and only they can get him out. This is the only democratic way left.

JIT couldn't find any corruption scandal in public fund although it went way beyond its mandated target of investigating Mayfair flats and off shore companies but couldn't find any solid proof of money laundering of corruption money!!! All they are talking about is disparity between declared assets and income versus actual worth and believe me this is the case with 99.9% Pakistanis

,PM has e to defend himself in the SC. We all have to wait for SC's decision and it's a matter of only 10 days or so. JIT report is like an FIR and no body can be punished based on such FIR only. Let SC decide the issue. Perhaps SC may not be satisfied by JIT, and may opt for investigation by NAB, that is indirectly to Accontability court. Let us wait.

the law and constitution allows him to defend his case in Supreme court and all those shouting for his resignation should stay put till this case achieves its finality in court. He should stand his ground for all reasons of fairness. There's nothing in JIT report that's final and until adopted by Supreme Court, its just a report. So people should hold their horses as July 17th is just round the corner.

The opposition will only grow stronger and pressure will be exerted on PM to leave office. It is not about party or democracy it's about family otherwise getting a member elected from the assembly as PM remains a wise option.
Javed Hashmi statement was misleading in which he tried to establish that everyone is a thief so we are a thief. It is not new in dynastic political monarchies to try and slip away even when caught.
If nothing else, forgery by his children and tax evasion are big enough reasons for him to rethink his decision.

Why should he be let go if he and his family committed so many falsifications. At the same time he should not be condemned unheard. I just cannot believe that people buy the argument that a PM is voted in for 5 years no matter what. If he is suspected of wrongdoing he is more accountable than a common man and needs to step down at least until his name is cleared. Would you keep a security guard if he is suspected of wrongdoing? Second, people are not the judge of corruption, that is the job of SC and for the rest of us to trust the justice. By saying people voted him in he is denying the rule of law and that is like your boss saying I will not resign because someone complained to HR except until everyone in the office accuses me directly. This will be resolved by Monday and as expected the SC will find the NS family guilty of money laundering. He did say that if found guilty he will leave of his own accord. I guess he has every right to wait until then. What should follow is the SC should direct NAB to reclaim all monies that cannot be accounted for by the Sharifs over the years. Either produce money trails or lose the money to the coffers of Pakistan. Ishaq Dar should be removed from his post too as he is a major money launderer.

If you read the final conclusion, IT IS NOT MAKING ANY ALLEGATIONS, it is just stating that the Sharif family has not been able to explain the multiplication of its wealth after coming into office.
Not being able to explain the extravagant increase in your wealth while holding public office is considered as corruption under the NAB Law.
If SC also decides that Sharif family is not able to explain their sources of income, then the PM has no legal or moral justification to stay in office

SC's two judges declared you dishonest, 3 other judges keen to reach a conclusion whether other 2 judges are right in declaring you dishonest. Investigation is being done in the wake of Panama Leaks. Why don you sue or take action against those who disclosed this report namely ICIJ.. all your old friends ditched you - why ? just ponder and accept you did some mistakes which will no more remain under carpet.
In order to keep sanctity of this chair, please revise your decision and ensure you are doing right by refusing to resign. If you think you are right and in case you are evicted, then please don drag nation into this, as this is your personal biz after all.

Atleast General Musharaf and Benazir Bhutto were in many news channels answering questions from public and news achors openly. sometimes live broadcast. Is Nawaz Sharif such a coward leader who decides not to man it up. How did this guy become a leader 3rd time. The people in this country have slave mentality, rather than logical reasoning. PNLN does not let the system work, and people still vote for them. Biggest gunda wins in the area, irrespective of which party is supporting him/her. Therefore parties support these people, whether PTI, PPP or PMLN.
When people will start thinking logically, and vote accordingly, the situation might change.
