Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani has accepted ex-PPP senator Babar Awan's resignation after the two met in Rabbani's chamber in Parliament House on Thursday.

Awan had submitted his resignation after he joined Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf last month. Since he was travelling abroad, he could not appear in person to confirm his resignation when called earlier.

Chairman senate has sent Awan's file to the senate secretariat after Awan confirmed that he had resigned without any pressure and of his own accord. The chairman will formally announce Awan's resignation in the upcoming senate session.
