MINGORA: More than 460 militancy-affected girl students will get uninterrupted electricity after installation of solar energy system at Khpal Kor Foundation.

The project, which will provide 20KW electricity to the girls campus of Khpal Kor Foundation, is being sponsored by the USAID-Small Grants and Ambassador’s Fund Programme.

Dr Haider Ali Khan, the parliamentary secretary for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anti-Corruption Establishment and Provincial Inspection Team, presided over the opening ceremony of the project held here on Thursday.

The residents of the area, students and their parents, officials of local administration, scouts volunteers and representatives of NGOs attended the event.

The speakers said on the occasion that the project was aimed at providing alternative source of energy to girls campus of Khpal Kor Foundation. Around 460 girl students are being imparted quality education on the campus. A hostel located in the same building provides lodging and boarding facilities to the students.

Mohammad Ali, the director of Khpal Kor Foundation, said that the project would generate 20KW electrify. He said that it would benefit the students as they would no more face power cuts.

“The project will also save the organisation from paying huge bill of electricity. The amount will be spent on other needs,” said Mr Ali.

Dr Haider Ali Khan thanked USAID-SGAFP for sponsoring the project. “I am sure that after successful implementation of the project, students at Khpal Kor Foundation will continue their studies without interruption. They will become useful citizens of the country,” he said.

The students said that they faced problems owing 18-hours power loadshedding as they could neither study nor sleep properly during the hot season. “Loadshedding has affected our daily activities,” said Iqra Ali, a ninth grader at Khpal Kor Model School.

The students of the orphanage also presented various items including welcome songs, national songs and skit on the occasion.
