PESHAWAR: The police on Friday recovered the body of a cop from a graveyard here. The victim was allegedly shot dead by unknown attackers, officials said.

They said the body was recovered from the Rehman Baba cemetery, falling in the limits of Yakatoot police station in the late afternoon. The policeman was identified as Rehman Khan, a resident of Bazidkhel area.

An official of the Yakatoot police station told Dawn that the cop was apparently killed with a single shot. He said it was not an incident of suicide. The official said that the policeman was on leave, adding the deceased’s vehicle was also parked nearby, while police had also recovered his official pistol. The official said it was not immediately clear whether he was killed over an enmity or it was an incident of targeted killing. “We will be able to say something after initial investigations into the case,” he said.
