SARGODHA: The administration has decided to build a 16km long protective dyke from Langarwala village in Sahiwal tehsil to Shahpur along the river Jhelum to protect over a dozen villages against flood.

This was stated by Sahiwal Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Shoaib and Executive Engineer Irrigation Ijaz while briefing Local Government Secretary Muhammad Aslam and Deputy Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha during their inspection of Langarwala bridge.

They said though a bridge over the river near Langarwala had been completed but over one dozen villages were facing danger of flood due to diversion of water flow. This prompted the administration to raise the protective spur along the river and estimated cost had been sent to government, they added.

The secretary local government and the DC visited Bhera also and reviewed the floor relief arrangements there. They directed the authorities concerned to ensure all kinds of possible relief activities for the people living along the bank of the river Jhelum and their cattle.
