CHITRAL: Seven persons drowned on Monday morning when a jeep coming from Arkari valley plunged into the Chitral River near the Chew bridge here.

Chitral police identified the drowned persons as Mohammad Afzal (driver), Mohammad Arif, Hassan Ali Shah, Sameer, Mohammad Hassan, Islahuddin and Rahila Bibi.

All the seven persons were missing as the river is in medium flood, making the search difficult.

All the 14 persons on board the vehicle belonged to Arkari village while the police said due to over-speeding the vehicle skidded off the road.

They said the rescuers rushed to the spot and saved five persons from drowning.
