SWABI: The provincial government has sanctioned Rs50 million for construction of sewerage system at Shahmansoor township, sources said.

Giving details, they said that the Swabi Development Authority officials had worked hard to persuade the provincial officials and politicians of the ruling party to sanction the funds for this important project. They said that sewerage system was important for ensuring clean environment in the township.

It has been learnt that some of the local PTI leaders were not happy over the provision of funds for the sewerage project and demanded that the money should be utilised somewhere else to increase their political influence in view of general election.

However, the sources said that the SDA officials argued that it would be impossible to run the township having 2,100 plots/houses without a proper sewerage system.

During a visit to the township, officials told this correspondent that the project was expected to be completed by year end.

TEHSIL COUNCIL: Some of the members of Swabi tehsil council here on Friday demanded convening of the budget session.

The session was suspended 10 days ago when the council members rose against the convener, Gohar Khan, and announced that they would not allow the session under him.

The members said that they would continue their protest because the convener had failed to ensure equal distribution of development funds.

Mr Gohar, who hails from ANP, said that some of the members wanted to get a major chunk of the budget, which was not possible.
