RAWALPINDI: Four train drivers who were arrested on terrorism charges during strike on Sunday were sent to Adiala jail after being produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court, while the fifth accused was still at large, police said on Tuesday.

The drivers were booked by the Railway police under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (7ATA) and other relevant sections of Railway Act after they observed strike to press the government for their demands on Sunday.

SP Railway Riaz Bosal confirmed to Dawn that the four drivers had been sent to jail on 14 days judicial remand.

The Railway police SHO, Mohammad Javaid, who was leading the investigation, however, told Dawn that apparently the police could not find any role of the fifth driver in the strike but he would be arrested, if he was found guilty during the investigation.

The FIR said five drivers of Pakistan Railways appeared in the loco shed on Sunday and incited the other drivers not to join their duty and created hurdle in the railways affairs.

It further said that the said drivers not only stopped the other drives at loco shed but they also telephoned the drivers at other stations to stop driving engines which caused suspension of railway traffic on other stations.

The act of five railway drivers not only caused panic and fear among the passengers but also put their lives in danger and caused huge loss to the railway department.
