GUJRANWALA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested 12 alleged human traffickers in a targeted operation across the region, Deputy Director Khalid Anees told Dawn on Tuesday.

The arrested suspects are Awais, Rana Zeeshan, Ilyas, Imran, Bilal, Aslam, Nadeem Shah, Dilawar Hussain, Muhammad Faiz, Abid Shah, Ashraf and Jamshid.

WALK: The district election commission and civil society organised an awareness walk regarding the importance of voter registration on Tuesday.

Representatives of civil society and religious leaders participated in the walk.

Sheikh Muhammad Saeed, Muhammad Jamil and Tariq Qurashi, representatives of the education department, led the walk.

According to data, the registered voters in Gujranwala are 2.5 million, of them 1.09 are women.

Speakers urged the opinion leaders to play their role to guide people to get computerised national identity card and register their vote.

Women social workers Alia, Quartul Ain and Farah Batool said that a door-to-door campaign would guide women about the importance of vote.

ARRESTED: The Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested on Tuesday a former health department accountant wanted in a record tampering and embezzlement of funds case since 2012.

Muhammad Aslam had allegedly forged record and escaped after stealing Rs3 million funds.

CCTV CAMERAS: Over 100 markets and bazaars will be watched over with CCTV cameras and security guards.

The decisions were made during a meeting by trade organisations on Tuesday.

Haji Abdul Rauf Mughal, president of the Anjman Tajran, told Dawn the meeting was held after a suicide attack in Lahore on Monday.

A delegation of traders met City Police Officer Muhammad Ashfaq Khan and assured him of their cooperation.

COURT PROJECTS: District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Abdul Nasir inaugurated an e-library, a control room and a computer room on district courts on Tuesday.

He said that on the direction of the Lahore High Court chief justice, these three projects had been launched. He said the information centre on the sessions court would provide assistance to 100 judges.

E-libraries have been established in Gujranwala, Wazirabad and Nosheran Virkan.
