Supreme Court on Friday disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from public office over long-running corruption allegations, a decision that ousts him from the premiership for the third time.
As the verdict was announced in Islamabad opposition supporters erupted in applause, rushing into the street chanting slogans and handing out sweets in celebration.
But in Lahore, the capital of Sharif's power base Punjab province, sporadic protests broke out, with his supporters burning tyres in the roads and blocking streets.

Its a rare occasion in history of supreme court that a prime minister has been disqualified by an over whelming number and that the entire proceedings of court were based on the constitution of Pakistan and not on emotional sentiments of the media and the people. I hope and pray that this momentum of accountability continues and many other corrupt politicians are brought to its net. I wish Pakistan a bright future, Pakistan Zindabad

I think the SC gave a good verdict and ex PM Nawaz Sharif took a very positive step in stepping down, for the sake of democracy. I think it is unseemly for any opposition people to celebrate this solemn day. I think that many opposition leaders, like Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen etc also deserve to be disqualified for fraud and hiding assets. Accountability should be held of all, across the board, if it is genuine.

People have to celebrate on this historic and joyful occasion since the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has rightly and boldly disqualified the ex corrupt Prime Minister and his gang of cronies, who have looted the land and people of their own country for over three decades?
Maybe it’s a start of new corruption free era for the 225 million people. The masses are fed-up with nepotism, favoritism and corruption, They want a new Pakistan where everybody has equal opportunity to prosper and progress based on merit and merit only. The hardworking people of the country definitely, positively and absolutely deserve to celebrate now because they see a ray of hope on the horizon to make Pakistan an Asian tiger.

After the judgement will Imran or Tauren be Sadiq and Ameen as the too did not disclose foreign assets. This judgement would apply on all the PTI stalwarts also. So is it premature mithai?

When this awkward tradition of jubilation by distributing Mithai is going to end? Do the people of who are dancing and celebrating realize that the party (PTI) they belong to may be a bit better at the top, however, not all in the party are clean as a whistle.

The day he had won the election to become the PM, I was disappointed as people of Pakistan had chosen a wrong person.
Any ways better late than never strong laws should be enacted that any person with Fraud, Money laundering, criminal cases should be directly debared from fighting an election.

It is an illiterate populace that celebrates the downfall of one of its own, the only one who in 100 years brought a sense of decency to a nation in tatters and when its very place among civilized people was questioned. They seem intent on returning to that status quo.

Great News...Finally democracy and rule of law seems to be winning... Now Supreme Court should investigate all other parties and clean the system. Also get rid of the feudal system...Come up with a democratic system that fits Pakistan allowing democracy to work with a strong role of the military (the only institution that seems to work in Pakistan).

I love MITHAI but these people are selfish and dont share ther MITHAI with me. We should not be disappointed because it shows the independency of the JURY in Pakistan. An Executive ( PM and cabinet) a legislature, an independent jury and a free press are essential for democracy. With all its problems it proves that democracy has taken root in Pakistan and is working for all.
