SWABI, Aug 12: The United Nations tries to reach different parts of the world in order to know people’s problems and take remedial measures accordingly.

This was stated by the officer-in-charge of UN Information Centre, Islamabad, Tetsuo Maximilien Ohno, during a visit to the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology on Tuesday.

The objective of his visit was to establish professional links between the institute and the UN.

Mr Ohno held talks with rector Dr Muhammad Naseer Khan and deans of faculties of the institute while discussing different aspects of the world body.

He visited all faculties including state-of-the-art laboratories of the institute.

Expressing his views on the structure and various agencies of the UN he said that the world body did not just comprise the General Assembly and the Security Council. There were various agencies focused on the welfare of people across the world, he said.

He said the UN had held seminars in different countries on different topics, published books and pamphlets and interacted with people of all walks of life in order to know the root cause of their problems.

To reach a majority of people of South Asia, he said, the UN had planned to publish books in Urdu language. There were, he added, 12 agencies that had been working in the industrial, cultural, educational, health, agriculture and some other sectors.
