LAHORE: Retired Justice Afzal Haider has joined the Pakistan Cricket Board as election commissioner to conduct the election of new PCB chairman.

Current PCB chief Shaharyar Khan is leaving the office on Aug 4 after completing his three-year term.

The election commission will announce the election schedule besides issuing the notification about the ten new members of the Board of Governors, which are from four regions — Lahore, Sialkot, Quetta and Fata — and four departments, UBL, HBL, SSGC and Wapda.

Two remaining BoG members are Najam Sethi and Arif Ejaz, who were nominated by then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif on July 10.

Though Nawaz Sharif was disqualified as prime minister by the Supreme Court on July 28, his nominees are likely to remain as one of them is eligible to contest the election. The election is most likely to be held before Aug 9.
