KARACHI: The first edition of Naya Nazimabad Inter-academy under-19 football tournament is slated to begin at the newly-developed Naya Nazimabad Football Ground her on Tuesday.

According to a press release, seven academy teams of the city will be seen in action during the tournament which concludes on Aug 13 with the final.

The teams have been divided in two pools. The round matches will be played on league basis before two top teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals.

Pool ‘A’ consists of Gulshan Soccer FA (GSFA), Karachi United FA Liyari (KUFA), Garrison FA Malir Cantt. (GFAMC) and hosts Naya Nazimabad FA (NNFA), while Pool ‘B’ includes Madhoo Mohammadan FA (MMFA), Sixteen Star FA (SSFA) and National Soccer FA (NSFA).

The winners will receive Rs30,000 while the runners-up will pocket Rs20,000. Player-of-the-tournament will get Rs5,000, while Rs3,000 will be given to a team for fair play. Arif Habib, chairman of Arif Habib Group, will head the tournament committee, press release added.
