PESHAWAR: The district government Peshawar has decided to shift fish market from Ghanta Ghar to an alternative place near Haji Camp Bus Stand to restore the historical site and facilitate the vendors as well.

The decision was taken in light of the instructions from the provincial government, at a meeting held here on Monday with district nazim Mohammad Asim in the chair. Officials of relevant departments were also in attendance.

According to a statement, the participants agreed that the fish market should be shifted to an open area where the vendors could continue their business without creating problems for the citizens, motorists and visitors to the historical sites in the old parts of Peshawar city.

It was suggested that the district government possessed a piece of 80 marla plot near Haji Camp Bus Stand where the fish market would be established and the shops would be allotted to the dislocated people.

A committee for the purpose was constituted with the director coordination as its head to take along all the stakeholders and visit the proposed site for the market. The district nazim assured that no one would be rendered jobless and the government would take all possible steps to provide alternative facilities to the vendors.
