PESHAWAR: A PML-N councillor in the city district government was killed in the limits of Mattani police station here on Thursday, police said.

The incident took place in Mattani, which is located on the southernmost part of the city close to Darra Adamkhel region of Kohat.

The Mattani police identified the councillor as Basit Khan, who was elected on youth seat to the Peshawar district council.

A police official told this correspondent that Mr Khan was on his way home from the police station when he came under attack. He said that the victim had visited the police station in connection with a search operation in the area. He said that the motive behind the murder was enmity with his relatives.

He said that about three weeks ago both parties had a fight and one of his opponents Imam Shah was behind bars on the charges of attempted murder. He said that Mr Khan’s family had nominated Muntazim Shah, Asif Shah and Zahir Shah in the murder case.

He said that police have launched investigation after registration of FIR. Naumanul Haq, ANP member of the district council, described Mr Basit as a young and energetic person.
