ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army clinched the first Strawberry Inter-departmental National Kabaddi Championship after defeating Pakistan Navy at the Liaquat Gymnasium of the Pakistan Sports Complex here on Sunday.

Army won the final 30-13 with Waseem Sajjad and Nasir Ali exhibiting brilliant performance by playing leading roles in their victory. Waseem struck nine points while Nasir registered eight points.

On the other hand, Navy, Kashif Razzaq put up a strong resistance, winning six points for his team but his colleagues hardly provided him any support.

Earlier, the PAF won the third position match, defeating Wapda 39-32 with PAF’s Atif Mahmood playing brilliantly.

The champions and runner-up were not given any cash prize. “We only gave medals to players since it was inter-departmental championship,” said Mohammad Pakistan Kabaddi Federation secretary Sarwar Rana.

“It is good omen that we hold a successful event which will help players better prepare themselves for the proposed Pakistan Kabaddi League (PKL),” he said, adding that federation has been taking step to hold the PKL this year.
