BAHAWALPUR: Up to 50,000 tons of wheat will be shifted from the flood-threatened zones of Bahawalpur to Rawaplindi.
Food Deputy Director Muhammad Ajmal Chaudhry told Dawn on Wednesday the shifting from Bahawalpur division to the rain-irrigated areas of the country was as per Punjab government’s policy only to protect the surplus yield lying in local godowns.
He said the yield had been shifted from godowns in Bela Jhullan near Uch Sharif, Metha Jhedo in Chishtian and Dullah Wadera in Bahawalnagar district to Rawalpindi. With Rawaplindi district being barani area with production of wheat, the government would supplement their needs with the surplus wheat of Bahawalpur division.
