ISLAMABAD, Jan 4: Economic advancement at all costs is the sole objective of the United Sates and international organizations like the IMF and London Club, and they are implementing an agenda to capture markets of developing countries.

This was said by former vice-chancellor (VC) of Quaid-i-Azam University Prof (Dr) Kaneez Fatima Yousuf. She was speaking at a discussion on “clash of civilizations” at the Trust for Volunteers Organization auditorium on Friday.

She said the scheme of globalization was floated to attain similar objectives. For achieving this goal, the US has not hesitated from interfering in the domestic affairs of countries of South America, Philippines, Iran, Vietnam and Iraq, she said.

More than 300,000 people had been killed in the 25-year Vietnam war, and some 50,000 children were killed in Iraq. She said the United States used its power with arrogance and extreme cruelty.

The former VC said the clash between East and West was not of civilizations, but of economic interests. The catch phrase, “clash of civilizations”, had been coined by American universities, and, later, the US government incorporated it in its global policies to achieve economic hegemony and exploit resources of Middle East and other Muslim countries.

She maintained that the theory of clashes was fabricated at various levels, including economic, diplomatic and intellectual. Powerful countries gain material advantage through such tactics.

Dr Kaneez said Chinese understood this phenomenon, and were accordingly building themselves and opening up to the world for gaining maximum economic benefits.

The strong and stable Pakistan-China friendship is the outcome of Chinese realization that the United States seeks unmitigated economic hegemony in a unipolar world after the collapse of communist ethos and Russian might.

The intellectuals of the country should analyze Indian and Israeli world-views, besides their customs, philosophies, histories and proactive inclinations to formulate comprehensive economic, foreign and defence policies, the former VC said.

Referring to the prevailing tension between Pakistan and India, she said the nation should closely observe the new developments, wherein India and Israel shared same interests and leverage remained with the United States.

The former vice-chancellor said immorality had now become the ruling passion in international diplomacy. She said the European countries formed free states and ethnicity was the basic motivation behind their unity. After Turkey’s fragmentation, Arabs found themselves divided in a number of small countries. — Jonaid Iqbal
