RAWALPIND: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and the Awami Muslim League (AML) plan to hold a public meeting at Liaquat Bagh on Aug 13.

“There is no need for permission, we just informed the police and administration about the arrival of Imran Khan on Aug 13,” said Zahid Kazmi, PTI district president. He was speaking at a press conference at the PTI district offices.

He said the PTI and AML will hold a historical public meeting which Imran Khan will address at Liaquat Bagh after six years.

Nawaz Sharif left Rawalpindi at a speed of 130 kph after not getting a response from the residents of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Mr Kazmi said, and that the PTI will show the former premier its street power in the garrison city.

He said Nawaz Sharif’s rally had arrived at the speed of 10 kph and left at 130 kph.

“Rawalpindi is the PTI’s fort which will be proved on August 13,” he said.

When asked, Mr Kazmi explained that Imran Khan had not announced his plan for coming to Rawalpindi to celebrate Independence Day which is why a separate rally was being planned.

He said joint teams had been formed to make arrangements for Imran Khan’s arrival in the city and that PTI and AML leaders will be meeting every day for mobilising party workers.

He said people from across the district will be participating in the public rally, which he claimed will be the biggest in the history of the city.

A senior official of the district administration said the management has not received an application seeking permission for the public meeting or information about the meeting.

He said such applications were forwarded to the intelligence committee of the district and Home Department and permission is granted after the application is approved and cleared by them.
