The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to host an award ceremony to honour three former captains of the Pakistan team in September, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi told DawnNews on Tuesday.
"We plan to arrange a special award ceremony for former captains Misbah ul Haq, Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi," said the chairman. "They served Pakistan for a long period and deserve appreciation."
Sethi further said that top players from the team will also be honoured at the ceremony.
"We will honour and appreciate our top players and umpires in the same award ceremony to encourage them," he said.
The board is scheduled to host a farewell ceremony for former chairman Shaharyar Khan on Wednesday.
Khan was elected to serve as chairman in 2014. During his three-year term, Sethi served as the board's executive committee chief.
Last week, the board elected Sethi to serve as its 30th chairman, replacing Khan.
Sethi, who is heading the successful Pakistan Super League, was elected unopposed and will serve a three-year term.

It's time that PCB recognise our senior retired players contribution to cricket. This will help motivate younger players, and set an example of 'recognition' that have previously been ignored for political and personal reasons. Good gesture!

Yunus Khan should be felicitated by a separate award ceremony for all his universal records in the game of cricket. There is a vast difference between his achievement and those of Afridi.

Good initiative by the PCB. All three were great servants of the game and Pakistan, leaving an enviably legacy behind them. Of the three, Afridi, however, could have scaled greater heights than he actually did. In a way, he was often his own worst enemy.

After showering million and billions on players, if there left some amount, distribute amongst those who don't have even clean drinking water facility , no shelter on their heads and even don't have a square meal for their poorly dressed children, let alone providing Education to their children.

We have to honor our heroes and must be treated gracefully irrespective of whether in action or got retired. Their experience and vision can help the young generation. Since Shahid Afridi and Yonus Khan are real legends in real life working without any discrimination for humanity on the streets of Karachi.

Just wondering, do we (in Pakistan) have "Hall of Fame" in cricket. Cricket is more than sports in Pakistan. How about having a distinguished location for such a "Hall of Fame in Cricket for Pakistan" and then allow it for public to visit for all times. Surely, we need a good specific quantifiable categories to be developed with consensus for each cricketer to qualify for the Hall. Of course, all three mentioned Misbah, Younis and Afridi will qualify. But there are many from past, who also qualify.

Hall of fame idea from ABL is great . Invite alive cricketers or dependents of them if they are not alive or not in Pakistan in another ceremony of hall of fame cricketers. Suggested forgotten Names: Fazal Mehmood, Imtiaz Ahmed, Abdul Hafeez Kardar, Wazir Mohammad, Mushtaq Mohammad, Hanif Mohammed, Sadiq Mohammad, Intikhab Alam, Majid Khan, Zaheer Abbass, Asif Iqbal, Iqbal Qasim, Wasim Raja, Anwer Saeed, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed, Salim Malik, Ejaz Ahmad, Sarfaraz Nawaz, Mohsin Hasan, Javed Miandad, Amir Suhail, Rameez Raja, Imran khan, Wasim Bari etc. After nineties or within last 2 decades, we all remember by heart - PCB can add if I miss any super star of past.

If Afridi will be honoured thus why not the past greater giants of the team- Wasim Mushtaq, Javed, Imran, Inzmam, Yousuf, Waqar, ....?
