GUJRANWALA: Five workers of the ruling party were injured seriously during an Independence Day ceremony in Khayali Union Council (UC) on Tuesday.

After attending the ceremony held at the outhouse of Khayali UC Chairman Seth Mahmood, two groups of PML-N workers got into a heated argument over taking selfies and later attacked each other with chairs.

Riaz, Anjum, Sharafat, Sohail and an unidentified man were injured seriously. Rescue 1122 shifted them to DHQ hospital.

Mehmood told reporters that all members of the PML-N were like brothers and the issue would be resolved as soon as possible.

ARRESTED: Satellite Town police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly torturing his minor housemaid.

An officer of Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, Shafiq Ratyal, told reporters that residents of Ratta Road informed them that their neighbour Imtiaz often tortured his maid Fazilat over trivial issues. When a team reached Imtiaz’s house, they found Fazilat, 7, in a poor condition.

She was shifted to DHQ Hospital where the medico-legal certificate proved torture on her.

An application was moved with Satellite Town police and a case registered against Imtiaz.

Talking to the media, Fazilat said she belonged to Okara district and her parents had sent her to Imtiaz’s house as a maid where she was tortured with clubs.

Police arrested Imtiaz and produced him in court where the judge sent him on judicial remand.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Nadeem Khokhar said the girl had been handed over to the bureau and that strict action would be taken against child labour.
