RAWALPINDI, Oct 13: As many as Rs17.75 million were distributed among 730 cooperative scam victims at a ceremony here at the Liaquat Memorial Hall on Saturday.

Most of the victims had deposits of less than Rs200,000 in the defunct cooperative societies. Each of them received a cheque of Rs25,000. They belonged to Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock and Jhelum. The money has been squeezed out of 102 owners of the cooperative societies by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Speaking on the occasion, Log Area Commander Maj-Gen Faheem Akhtar said the compensation of cooperative scam victims was one of the outstanding achievements of the present government.

District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiyani in his comments said that besides the compensation drive, the other main achievement of the present government was that several incomplete development schemes had been reactivated.
