DADU: Former education minister Pir Mazharul Haq and his MPA son launched a cleanliness drive in the city, from Syal Mori to Shaheed Shahjahan Park along the embankment of Dadu Canal and Phaka Shakh, on Sunday, accusing chairman of Dadu municipal committee of negligence in the city’s sanitation.

Pir Mazhar told journalists that human waste and untreated water were flowing into the canal due to municipal officials’ negligence, creating health hazards for citizens.

Pir Mujeeb said that heaps of garbage were seen lying about the city and sewage water was overflowing on the roads but the municipal committee was not ready to improve the system.

He appealed to Sindh chief minister to order anti-corruption establishment to conduct an inquiry into where funds of municipal committee were being spent.

Dadu municipal committee chairman Gul Hassan Qambrani said that the area around the canal belonged to irrigation department which Pir Mazhar and his supporters were attempting to occupy to construct 200 shops.
