Balochistan police on Monday defused two bombs planted outside a political leader’s residence in Chaman, police said, foiling a major attack.

Unknown miscreants had planted two bombs in the fuel tanks of two motorcycles parked outside Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) leader Haji Essa's residence in the Guldara Baghicha area of Chaman, police said.

According to police, each of the bombs defused by the bomb disposal squad (BDS) contained 10kgs of explosive material.

Police and FC personnel had arrived in the area after residents informed police about two suspiciously parked motorcycles near the PkMAP leader’s house.

The security forces cordoned off the area in order to investigate the incident.

Chaman is considered to be a highly sensitive area because of its close proximity to the Pak-Afghan border.

On July 10, the District Police Officer (DPO) Killa Abdullah, Sajid Mohmand, and his guard had lost their lives in an attack in Chaman's Boghra Road area.

At least 11 other people — including police officials and passers-by — had been injured in the blast, which struck a vehicle carrying the police chief and two of his guards.
