HYDERABAD: The Sindh High Court’s Hyderabad circuit on Monday restrained professors, doctors and other employees of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) from availing treatment facilities at private hospitals except for treatment/tests not available at teaching hospitals.

A division bench comprising Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Fahim Ahmed Siddiqui passed the order on a constitutional petition filed by Akhtar Ali Abro through advocate Ejaz Ahmed Awan.

In his petition, Mr Abro had stated that during his visit to the Kotri Civil Hospital, he had observed that the offices of doctors and civil surgeons were vacant and patients were suffering.

Advocate Awan argued that there were 45 wards in the Liaquat University (LUH) but professors and doctors were not performing their duties. He contended that professors, doctors and other employees of LUMHS did not avail treatment facilities for themselves and their families at the LUH and on contrary they got treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital, which was on the university’s panel.

The bench adjourned the case to Sept 12.
