NAROWAL: Four students of the University of Engineering Science and Technology’s Narowal sub-campus have made a robot, claiming it can not only defuse explosive devices, but can also be used to monitor a danger zone and shift the injured.

According to the final year students — Arqam Imran, Mubashar Ashraf, Subhan Ahmad and Ahmad Khan — who had displayed the robot in their thesis project show, the robot could be controlled from a safe distance of 150 meters to defuse an explosive device using internet.

They said it could also move explosive material from one place to another using a trolly without endangering any human life.

They said as a tank-like belt was used to move the robot, it could smoothly operate on an uneven surface as well.

Arqam Imran said, “The earlier model of the robot which we had prepared could only move on a straight road but this one uses a tank track, to move on uneven surface also.”

The robot had also been fitted with cameras and could be used to assess loss of life and property, she added.

They said the robot was fire-proof and could function in the situations immediately after or during a terrorist attack to shift the injured to safer places.
