PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced rickshaws powered by electric and solar energy in the provincial metropolis.
The eco-friendly three-wheelers are made in China.
Special assistant to the chief minister on transport and mass transit Malik Shah Mohammad Wazir launched the three-wheelers here during a special ceremony on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the special assistant to the CM said the electric and solar rickshaws were environment-friendly, comfortable and cost-effective and met the modern era commuting requirements of the local residents.
He said the capital city had such rickshaws for the first time.
Mr Malik Shah Mohammad said the launch of electric and solar rickshaws would help save foreign exchange for both the province and the country as the three-wheelers were economically viable and saved petrol.
“These electric and solar rickshaws have been imported from China. The transport department has permitted their launch in the capital city in the larger public interest,” he said.
