SWABI: Voting on the no-confidence motion tabled against the Swabi tehsil nazim and his deputy would take place today (Wednesday).

Jamaat-i-Islami’s tehsil council members who had revolted against own nazim said that they were confident to form new tehsil government comfortably.

The drama continued as tehsil nazim Wahid Shah on Monday registered an FIR against Iqbal Zada and Jamshed Khan, members of the tehsil council, alleging that the two opened fire on him and his nephew in Maneri village.

As a result, his nephew Atif Nawaz was injured while he survived the attack and his official vehicle was hit by four gunshots. Both the members had secured a bail before arrest and would appear in the local court on Sept 16 for confirmation of their bail.

Sources said that the firing incident had aggravated the tense situation. Both the treasury and opposition benches said that they were ready for the Wednesday’s voting. The JI leaders said that the people would see how Wahid Shah and Gohar Khan were ousted.

However, naib nazim Gohar Khan said that they were confident that the no-trust move would be frustrated. In the 22-member council the JI has 10 members, including nazim Wahid Shah, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf six, Awami National Party three, and Pakistan Peoples Party, PML-N and JUI-F one each.

The councillors of JI, PTI, PML-N and PPP have joined hands to dislodge the nazim and naib nazim over their failure to ensure equal distribution of development funds. Meanwhile, Mr Iqbal and Jamshed demanded a judicial probe into the Monday’s incident.

DENGUE AWARENESS: The health authorities here on Tuesday advised people to adopt precautionary measures against dengue disease. They said that fumigation had been made in most of the areas. They said that support of the people was critical to preventing spread of the disease.
